There are a couple of ways to participate in the organization.

Joining as a Friend by postal mail

Simply fill out this Friends Form and send it to:

Friends of the Migratory Bird/Duck Stamp
P.O. Box 2143
Columbia, MD 21045

You can join the Friends of the Migratory Bird/Duck Stamp as a Regular Friend, a Supporting Friend, or a Business/Organizational Friend. (Note: Other refuge Friends groups are encouraged to associate with us and stay in contact as Regular Friends.) There is also the opportunity on the form to make an additional contribution—also fully tax exempt—to promote the work of our Friends Group. Your association is annual, corresponding to the year of validity for the Migratory Bird Hunting and Conservation Stamp (Duck Stamp), namely from the beginning of July to the end of the following June.

The Regular Friend fee is modest, but in additional, all Friends are also asked to pledge to buy TWO stamps per year, joining with other organizations across the country with that effort.

NOTE:  The Friends Group is a 501(c)(3) organization, and contributions are fully tax-deductible. The membership year runs from 1 July to 30 June.

The Stamp-support listserv

Even before the Friends of the Migratory Bird/Duck Stamp was launched, there was an active Stamp-support listserv that has functioned to keep discussion of Stamp issues, support, and promotion alive. The participants have been a mix of waterfowlers, birders, photographers, FWS staffers, Jr. Duck Stamp coordinators, environmental educators, collectors, Friends Group leaders, and anyone else who appreciated the value of the Stamp and wished to spread the word.

All those who donate to the Friends group (see above) will automatically be placed on the Stamp-support listserv, unless you specifically ask that you not be included.

But you don't even need to join our Friends Group—although we wish you would!—to be part of the listserv. To join the listserv, send your full name and e-mail address to Debbie Harwood ( at the National Wildlife Refuge Association with a specific request to be added to the list.

We simply ask that you conduct the discussion in a collegial manner, stay on topic, and keep in mind the major intent of the Stamp-support listserv: to help fellow participants promote, appreciate, and spread the Stamp and its importance to conservation and the Refuge System. (One final note: Whenever you yourself post a message to the listserv, be sure to use the prefix Stamp: as the first part of your Subject line. It helps recipients realize where the e-mail is coming from and who else is receiving it.)

Instructions for posting will be available when you receive your first listserv posting to your e-mail address.
